Fathom4sight at Global Fintech Fest 2025:

Highlights from Mumbai, India

October 08, 2025 Fathom4sight is attending the Global Fintech Fest 2025 (GFF 2025) in Mumbai, India, with Senior Research Analyst Priyamoni Debnath on the ground.

Organized by the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI), the Payments Council of India (PCI), and the Fintech Convergence Council (FCC), the three-day event (October 7-9, 2025) at the Jio World Convention Centre brings together policymakers, innovators, and institutions to discuss the future of financial technology.

This year’s theme - “Empowering Finance for a Better World: Powered by AI” - highlights the expanding role of artificial intelligence across payments, lending, and financial inclusion.

Key Announcements from Day 2:

  1. Biometric Authentication for UPI
NPCI announced the rollout of biometric authentication for UPI transactions, enabling users to approve payments through fingerprint or facial recognition instead of a PIN.
The feature, which will launch in phases starting this week, aims to improve both security and accessibility for India’s 400 million+ UPI users.

  2. Foreign Currency Settlement via GIFT City
The Reserve Bank of India and NPCI introduced a new foreign-currency settlement system through the GIFT City IFSC platform, designed to support faster, cheaper cross-border payments.
The system is expected to strengthen India’s position in global financial infrastructure by enabling settlements in USD, EUR, and GBP.

  3. AI Concentration and Systemic Risk Warning
During GFF, NPCI Chairman Biswamohan Mahapatra cautioned against concentration of AI and cloud infrastructure among a handful of global providers, noting that such dominance could introduce systemic risks for financial services.
The comment aligns with broader discussions around AI sovereignty and data resilience.

India’s FinTech ecosystem continues to operate as a live laboratory for digital public infrastructure (DPI) and payment innovation.
The combination of policy support, large-scale user adoption, and rapid experimentation has made India a reference point for markets exploring AI-enabled finance and inclusive digital systems.
