Canada Launches the Canadian Anti-Scam Coalition
Canada’s major banks, telecom companies, and tech firms have joined forces with law enforcement and the federal government to launch the Canadian Anti-Scam Coalition (CASC) - the country’s first unified effort to combat scams targeting consumers.
Formed after a year of collaboration, CASC will lead a nationwide education and prevention campaign to reduce the financial and emotional harm caused by scams. It replaces fragmented anti-fraud initiatives with a coordinated national strategy to identify, disrupt, and prevent scams across industries.
Why the Coalition Exists
Rising Threats: Scams are becoming more sophisticated, using AI-generated voices, fake websites, and spoofed calls, making every Canadian a potential target.
Massive Impact: Canadians lost over $645 million to scams in 2024, with only 5–10% of cases reported - meaning total losses may reach the tens of billions.
Unified Response: CASC brings together financial, telecom, tech, and government sectors to share intelligence, coordinate action, and raise public awareness.
What the Coalition Does
Shared Intelligence: Members exchange real-time threat data to detect and disrupt scams faster.
Cross-Sector Standards: Promotes consistent anti-fraud protocols, closing the gaps scammers exploit between industries.
Public Education: Creates national campaigns and resources to help Canadians recognize, report, and avoid scams.
Targeting Organized Crime: Many scams fund larger criminal networks - CASC’s approach aims to cut off these pipelines.
Adapting to AI Risks: As AI-driven scams increase, CASC continues to evolve tools and outreach to counter deepfakes and digital impersonation.
New Campaign: “Stand Against Scams”
CASC’s first major initiative, Stand Against Scams, is a nationwide campaign teaching Canadians to prevent scams before they happen - especially during high-scam periods like the holidays.
Its message centers on three simple actions:
Stop - Pause before sharing money or personal info.
Check - Verify legitimacy with your bank or telecom provider.
Talk - Share experiences with others to raise awareness.
The campaign runs across digital, social, and community channels, directing Canadians to StandAgainstScams.ca for verified resources, scam alerts, and reporting links to the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre.
By encouraging people to pause, verify, and communicate, the coalition aims to make scams harder to execute, faster to detect, and easier to stop.
